Your refrigerator is something you access many times a day. It holds the key to human sustenance; food. Everyone needs to eat, and the refrigerator stores and preserves many foods and liquids from spoiling. Because of this, it is imperative to keep the refrigerator space clean such that the items stored inside the refrigerator also stay clean.

However, many people neglect cleaning the refrigerator often because of the lack of knowledge of exactly how to do it. Despite the lack of knowledge and experience of cleaning refrigerators, it is actually not very difficult to properly clean refrigerators by using these techniques. Before actually cleaning the insides of the refrigerator, you need to prepare to clean the refrigerator by defrosting the freezer section of the refrigerator.

To properly defrost the freezer section, you must unplug the refrigerator and let the frost melt. The refrigerator should actually be defrosted annually to prevent the reduction of performance and efficiency caused by excess frost. When cleaning the freezer section, do not forget to also clean the drip pan.

Clean your Fridge Using These Products

An easy cleaning solution to clean the interior can be formulated with common household items:

  • baking soda
  • water
  • vanilla extract

The cleaning solution should contain an even ratio of baking soda and water, and an ample amount of vanilla extract made to your liking. The vanilla extract will provide your refrigerator with a nice deodorization from all the different foods it stores.

Another method of deodorizing your refrigerator from all the food odors is to place an open box of baking soda on a refrigerator shelf that will control food odors extremely well. Each box of baking soda will last approximately two months. A sponge dipped in the cleaning solution will work great when wiping down on refrigerator interiors and crispers.

Cleaning the Fridge with a Vacuum? Yes.

It is important to clean your refrigerator to keep the food itself inside the refrigerator clean as well. At least twice a year, you should use a vacuum cleaner and a vacuum cleaning attachment with a long-handled brush to clean the dust and dirt from the condenser coils in the bottom grill or kick plate. As always, it is important to unplug the refrigerator unit before engaging any cleaning techniques to prevent accidentally short-circuiting or anything from breaking down with the refrigerator.

Cleaning out the dirt and dust from your refrigerator’s condenser coils is responsible for increasing the efficiency of your fridge by three to five percent. It also may save you approximately one hundred dollars in electricity costs. Also, do not forget to clean the doors of your refrigerator as it is a very dirty surface because it is touched many times throughout the day. It’s simpler to clean the doors of the refrigerator. Just use a cloth dipped in mild dish detergent. With stainless steel doors, they should be cleaned with commercial stainless steel spray. In the end, cleaning your refrigerator may seem like a daunting task, but in reality, it is not. With these simple techniques, cleaning your refrigerator will be a breeze.
